KATERI TEKAKWITHA
Known as the "Lily of the Mohawks" for her saintly life, Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha was born in Auriesville, New York, in 1656. Her mother, a Christian Algonquin, was wife to the pagan chief of the Mohawk Indian tribe.
When Kateri was three years old she lost her father, mother and only brother to a smallpox epidemic, which left her disfigured and partially blind.
Raised by an uncle, Kateri was baptized into the Catholic Faith when she was 19 years old, against the wishes of her relatives. Vowing to lead a virgin life, she spent her days in prayer, and in caring for the sick and elderly.
Kateri's conversion to the Christian faith drew the ridicule of her tribe, forcing her to flee to the Jesuit mission of St. Xavier near Montreal, Canada. Buried at Caughnawaga, Quebec, Kateri was beatified on June 22, 1980.

BAPTISM:
Baptism: Great News! You are expecting a baby! The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated at Blessed Kateri Parish on Saturday evening and at all of the Sunday Liturgies. We also celebrate Baptism on Sunday afternoon at 1:15 p.m. with one of our Deacons. First time parents are asked to attend a Baptism Preparation Session, so they can better understand the meaning of the Sacrament of Baptism. We ask that you call the parish office to schedule your child's Baptism at least six weeks in advance

Ministry to the Sick:
Please contact the parish office regarding any member of the household who is ill or confined in the hospital (since the hospitals do not contact us) or at home.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is celebrated at the 8:00 a.m. Sunday Liturgy for those who are approaching surgery. Many hospitals no longer notify churches of their parishioner’s admission. Please let us know if someone in your household is hospitalized.

MINISTRY TO BEREAVED:
As a parish community we wish to support those who grieve the loss of a loved one.  Our Parish Staff and Bereavement Ministry are available to offer support and consolation.  It is the Catholic tradition to hold a vigil for the deceased (wake) and a Funeral Mass.  Cremation is permitted in the Catholic Church, but it is encouraged that this take place after the Funeral Mass.

We ask that you secure the date with the parish before making commitments with the caterers, reception halls, etc. and that you make your arrangements at least one year in advance to ensure proper preparation for marriage.
